Home from Florida!

We left WHS at 7 am on Thursday and we arrived to Orlando, FL around 7 am on Friday...the bus ride went surprisingly fast...plus it helped that the kids were complete angels the whole time! (Shelby is in the pink in about the middle of the photo...a few of us Mom's took pictures for the school with their cameras, but the whole time I was kicking myself for not having MY camera with me...even though it weighs a ton to haul around. Oh well.)
When we arrived to our hotel they had a wonderful breakfast buffet waiting for us...
...then we were off to Wet N' Wild for half of our first day...this is Kayla, Dakota, & Shelby after one of their first trips down the water slides...
After about 4 hours at Wet N' Wild we headed over to Universal Studios...love the shades girly!
We got to Universal Studios around 5 pm and we let the kids go off into groups as long as they had three or more at all times...this meant that the adults got to hang around with each other, and we had a blast...this was my group...me, Beth and Julie...we hit the water ride (the Popeye ride is what we called it) and got completely soaked...we looked like drown rats, but we such a great time!
Shelby and her crew rode some rides and then ate at the huge Hard Rock Cafe' for dinner...
The next day was "performance day" at Universal, but before that we had a breakfast (all to ourselves) at Planet Hollywood at Downtown Disney...it was so cool! Then we headed over to Universal Studios so the kids could perform...this was Shelby's "roommates" for the week...Kayla (senior), Dakota (sophmore), Shelby (freshman), & Madison (freshman)...
They performed 4 songs in the blistering heat and we only had 2 girls out of all 94 of them get a touch of heat stroke...one of my girls collapsed during the performance so we spent about an hour or so in the infirmary getting her cooled off and hydrated...
...but then our day of fun continued and we all had a great full day playing at Universal! The Ellen Degeneres Show was taping both days we were there so the kids got to see the Jonas Brothers and Kelly Pickler on stage with Ellen...that was cool too!
On our third day we headed south to the Gulf Coast area and spent the day at St. Petersburg Beach...it was so beautiful and there was even a dolphin swimming right out by the kids for a while...I was really wishing I had MY camera that day...this is a group shot before we left the beach around 7 pm...
On our final day in Florida we headed to Tampa Bay to spend the day at Bush Gardens...
Two of my fellow chaperone's...Juls & Beth...AKA: my partners in crime...I think we managed to have more fun than the kids...we decided that getting tattoos was the cool thing to do during our day of adventure at Bush Gardens (I got a butterfly on the side of my lower leg)... 3 to 5 days of fun with our spray on tattoos!
This was one of the most amazing roller coaster's I've ever been on, the Sheikra (@Bush Gardens)...it has two 90% drops...Laurie (the fourth in our group...I unfortunately don't have a picture of all four of us), Julie and I braved about every roller coaster we could find being the huge dare devils that we are...
It was 7 pm and time to meet the buses to head for our long ride back to Iowa, so we decided to take class pictures outside of Bush Gardens while we waited for the buses to come... so here are the Seniors that went on the trip......the Juniors...
...the Sophomores...
...and the Freshman...(Shelby is in the turquoise shirt)...After we took all of our photos we were informed that one of our buses had broken down and that we would be staying another night in Florida, but it was around midnight before we were able to get back to the hotel and we were up and ready to head for home by 7:30 am.
The trip home was a long 24 hour or so ride and quite a few of us were getting sick. The whole trip, we had one girl who was sick the whole time and eventually even had to go to the ER for IVs. Other than those few obstacles this was an amazing trip and the kids were so good! This was my wonderful group of girls for the week & they were SO fun...all in all I'd say that we all had an awesome trip!
So I say..."Sign me up again!" SERIOUSLY!!!
My plan is to sign up to go again in four years ( they only do this trip evey 4 years) when Kaleb is a sophomore! Then maybe Rob can come and join in on the fun too. :)
