The day starts out great...it's the last day of 8th grade for Shelby, and the last day of 5th grade for Kaleb.
Shelby had her awards day, where the families come while the whole Jr. High has an awards assembly. Shelby recieved awards for Honor roll, Volleyball, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Reading, Choir, Opus Honor Choir, and Concert Band. We are so proud of her! Now she's off to High School (SCARY!)...
Shelby and her friends Erin, Bre, and Amy, made a t-shirt for their "D.C. Mom" (Tom Austin, who was their group leader durring the Washington D.C. trip.) He was nice enough to wear his mother's day gift for the girls on the last day of school. These crazy girls decided that Tom wasn't a good enough name, and they decided to nickname him "Mom." What a great sport Tom...
Then after Shelby's awards we headed over to pick Kaleb and his friend Tanner up from their last day of school. It really looked like it was going to storm, so we waited around for Shelby to get finished with Softball practice. Sure enough it started really storming with very heavy rain, so we went to rescue Shelby.
When we got to the school the athletic director drove over to us to tell us that the tornado had hit Muscatine and we should head into the school to the shelter area in the chorus room.
Rob had taken the day off for the kids last day of school, so he was with us. His phone rang, and it was my mom telling us that Nic's (my brother's) house had been hit by the tornado, but she thought that everyone was okay. As soon as the all clear was given, we headed straight to Muscatine to check on Nic, Terrin, and Claire. Thankfully they had just made it into the basement when the tornado hit their house.
Once we arrived this was what we saw...
It doesn't look as bad in the pictures, but the entire house is totaled. The foundation, the roof, the walls, the garage, everything is beyond fixing. Nic found out today that he is going to have to rebuild a whole new foundation, house, and garage. So far it sounds like his insurance company is being very helpful and cooperative. We are very thankful for that.

Nic and Terrin were still pretty much in shock when we got there, so we just started packing them up and moved them out as quickly as we could. Many of Nic's friends showed up and we moved as much out as possible in about 6 truck loads or so. As for now, Nic, Terrin, and little Claire are living at my mom's house. Everything they had was completely covered in old blown asbestos insolation, and is therefore ruined, but I'm so thankful that they are all safe and sound.
Please keep them all in your prayers while they attempt to live in limbo for the next few months, and try to rebuild their home.
